Character Name: Umi Sonoda
Character Canon: Love Live! School Idol Project

History: Wiki link~

AU History:

Umi was born into a very traditional Calderan family, that actually followed two different traditions! Her mother and father run a combined dojo that focuses on martial arts and traditional dance. Umi is expected to eventually take over the dojo when her parents retire. As such, she's expected to actually be able to perform well in both, and has undergone a significant amount of training. On top of her education. So she's pretty much expected to be able to do everything. She's also skilled at archery and calligraphy.

She was fairly young when she discovered her abilities as an Enlightened. Fighting types were not uncommon in Caldera, but Water types were another story. While her Water typing was somewhat of an oddity, Umi trained to use her powers along with what her parents expected of her.

However, due to the majority of her time spent training and learning, Umi didn't socialize much, and as a result, she grew to be fairly shy and awkward around people she didn't know. Those she did know, however? She was likely a completely different person around them, strong willed and stern.

Her life didn't revolve entirely around her training and studies, though. Umi was still a teenage girl, and of course she'd go out into the city to spend some of her free time. Having been trained in traditional dance, she was interested in the dance scene, but...ultimately decided against it. Performing in front of a large crowd seemed too embarrassing, even if it was something she'd wanted to do.

More recently was the siege on Caldera by Gigas, which Umi and her family didn't have much at all to do with. They aided some of the wounded and allowed the dojo to be used as a sort of temporary clinic, but that was it. Once it was over, life pretty much went back to normal, although Umi was certainly interested in the discovery of Union.

Finding herself with a bit more free time, Umi's learned of the university in Union, and is rather curious to see what the education is like there, perhaps to see if it would be better to attend there.

Canon Personality:
Umi is an intelligent girl who likes to approach things from a logical perspective. Every problem has a solution that can be reached by following the correct steps. As such, she's really not that much into doing things spontaneously. She likes to follow a set schedule if possible. It's not completely necessary for her to survive, but it certainly makes her life easier. However, she's used to things not being particularly easy. Because Umi is expected to be able to do so much, she's pretty good at being able to juggle multiple things on her mind at the same time, as well as focusing on what she needs to at any given time. Once she has her heart and mind set on something, she'll give it her all.

What that ability to focus comes an extraordinarily strong will. There are very few things that can dissuade or persuade her to do something that she's set on. Either there'd better be some kind of dire situation, her friends are in trouble, or Kotori has to give her those irresistible pleading eyes. When it comes to getting things done, she can actually be kind of pushy at times, trying to get others to focus on the task at hand rather than doing nonsensical things or lazing about. If there's something she's concerned about or needs to do in order to continue on, you can bet she'll pursue it. Being able to be both stern and supportive when she needs to be makes her a rather good leader when combined with her determination to see things through.

Having so much to do between clubs, life at home, and school mean that Umi lives a fairly active lifestyle. She doesn't do much in the way of relaxing, but when she does, she usually spends her free time hanging out with her friends rather than alone. She doesn't like being lazy. Whether it's practicing any of her skillsets, studying, or even helping someone else with their own work, she'll find something to do.

When it comes to new places, people she doesn't really know, or things she's unsure about, Umi is actually rather shy. Shy to the point of being kind of awkward. Especially when it comes to things like being recorded on camera or showing more skin than she thinks is necessary. It's actually pretty easy to get her all flustered if you know how to tease or push her just right.

Really though, Umi is pretty down to earth, and for those who know her, she's a great friend. Even if it's something she may not completely agree with, she'll do what she can to support her friends unless she really thinks there's something wrong with it. It's...really not difficult to get along with her unless you make it difficult. While she can be shy, she's certainly not opposed to having conversations with people (so long as it isn't like, an awkward subject). There might be the occasional argument over controversial things, but once you get close to her, you've got someone who'll always be there for you.

On a side note, waking her up is not recommended. She's bound to knock you out with a supersonic pillow.

AU Deviation: While the core of Umi's personality will remain the same, there are some key differences.

Her family life is...about the same, really. Her parents run their combined dojo, and Umi is expected to inherit it, but she's a little more confident in being able to fulfill that role due to her powers as an Enlightened. She is kind of embarrassed that she's a fairly rare type in Caldera, though.

The biggest difference is that Umi will be shier that she was in canon. Without her two best friends there to initially drag her out of her shell, she's still fairly reserved. She'll still talk to someone if they initiate conversation, but she won't go out seeking attention or anything. The only reason she isn't hilariously awkward around other people is because of having to interact with others at the dojo and school. (I'm assuming there is some form of education in Caldera aside from homeschooling?) And while she's shy, she really would like some good friends, but she's not entirely sure how to go about gaining them. Approaching someone and just asking if they want to be friends seems kind of awkward.

Canon Abilities: Umi is a normal human in canon. However, she's skilled at martial arts, traditional Japanese dance, archery, and of course, singing and dancing as a school idol.

Enlightened Abilities: As an Enlightened, Umi is typed Fighting to represent her strong will and her father's side of the dojo, and Water to show off her quieter side and her mother's side of the dojo. She has little to no actual combat experience, save for some basic self defense, although she is still skilled at archery.

She very rarely uses her Enlightened abilities, although her Fighting typing gives her slightly more stamina than the average human. In Caldera though, her Water typing doesn't see a whole lot of use. She generally has to carry a bucket filled with water to practice any of her water abilities. Usually, she just forms arrows out of water, which she can fire just like an ordinary arrow. These arrows are nonlethal, but are useful for making an opponent flinch.

Speaking of which, Umi's fighting style is mostly graceful and supportive, aiding her allies and bolstering them on, but if need be, she'll take the lead and fend off an opponent with either brute strength or one of her water arrows. (If it isn't obvious by now, she wields a bow.)

Her Enlightened perk is Mastery of Training, which is based off of her own will to train and better herself.

As she evolves, her Fighting type still doesn't show much at all, but she'll appear somewhat sleeker and almost slick, as if her skin is permanently wet. She will also be able to breathe underwater.

Starter Pokémon: Ralts (Kaori) ♀

Notes/Special Considerations: I...don't think I have anything special to add? She may become part of the idol group at some point.

First-Person:

[When the video feed begins, it's fairly obvious that the Warp Band is not on its owner for the simple fact that she's standing a few yards away doing...stretches? It's important to do some warm-up stretching in the morning. Considering she's about to explore a city she's never been in before, Umi would prefer to be fully awake and energized, as it's sure to be a long day.

She keeps it up for a minute or two before she seems to realize something. Umi looks around for a moment before spotting whatever is playing with her Warp Band. Which reveals itself to be a Ralts, which turns the feed to face it with a bright smile.]

Kaori, we're supposed to be exercising! What are you...

[She trails off for a moment as Kaori holds up the Warp Band to oh so proudly show her. There's just this brief, awkward pause when Umi realizes that it's actually recording. Her expression goes from one of reprimand to one of horror as she scrambles to grab the device and turn it off.]

T-turn it off! Turn it-

[Aaaand she successfully manages to turn it off. This was not how she planned on starting her day. How many people just saw that?]

Third-Person:

After that horribly embarrassing turn of events in the morning, Umi was still rather embarrassed, but she didn't let that keep her down for the most part. It could've been worse, right? Sure, she'd have shown herself over the network eventually, but she hadn't been prepared, and so she'd been caught off guard. What was done was done, though. She'd just have to push past it.

She sighed briefly as she glanced back at her Ralts companion, who followed close behind as Umi walked through Union, taking in the unfamiliar sights. It really was quite different from Caldera, and while she was a bit nervous, it was refreshing to see something new. That was an opinion Kaori apparently shared, judging by the little 'oohs' and 'ahhs' she was making as they walked along. Umi couldn't help but smile. The Ralts was a little excitable at times, but when it came down to getting things done, she usually did what she was supposed to.

Umi stopped at a bench for a break after buying a couple of pastries from a small bakery. After hoisting Kaori up next to her, she passed the Pokémon one of the sweets, which it started munching on contentedly. "We'll have to work that off later. Double for you since you neglected your exercise earlier. Unless you want to get fat." The Ralts sighed, but made no move to stop eating her snack. Umi didn't push it though, she could do that later when they found a suitable spot to continue their exercises.
